Types of Advertising- Online Advertising

Online advertising is a form of promotion that uses the Internet and World Wide Web for the expressed purpose of delivering marketingmessages to attract customers. Examples of online advertising include contextual ads that appear on search engine results pages, banner ads, in text ads, Rich Media Ads, Social network advertising, online classified advertising, advertising networks and e-mail marketing, including e-mail spam.

Television Advertising

The TV commercial is generally considered the most effective mass-market advertising format, as is reflected by the high prices TV networks charge for commercial airtime during popular TV events. The annual Super Bowl football game in the United States is known as the most prominent advertising event on television. The average cost of a single thirty-second TV spot during this game has reached US$3 million (as of 2009).

The majority of television commercials feature a song or jingle that listeners soon relate to the product.

Press advertising

Press advertising describes advertising in a printed medium such as a newspaper, magazine, or trade journal. This encompasses everything from media with a very broad readership base, such as a major national newspaper or magazine, to more narrowly targeted media such as local newspapers and trade journals on very specialized topics. A form of press advertising is classified advertising, which allows private individuals or companies to purchase a small, narrowly targeted ad for a low fee advertising a product or service.

In-store advertising

In-store advertising is any advertisement placed in a retail store. It includes placement of a product in visible locations in a store, such as at eye level, at the ends of aisles and near checkout counters, eye-catching displays promoting a specific product, and advertisements in such places as shopping carts and in-store video displays.

Billboard advertising

Billboards are large structures located in public places which display advertisements to passing pedestrians and motorists. Most often, they are located on main roads with a large amount of passing motor and pedestrian traffic; however, they can be placed in any location with large amounts of viewers, such as on mass transit vehicles and in stations, in shopping malls or office buildings, and in stadiums.

Infomercial

An infomercial is a long-format television commercial, typically five minutes or longer. The word “infomercial” is a portmanteau of the words “information” & “commercial”. The main objective in an infomercial is to create an impulse purchase, so that the consumer sees the presentation and then immediately buys the product through the advertised toll-free telephone number or website. Infomercials describe, display, and often demonstrate products and their features, and commonly have testimonials from consumers and industry professionals.

Radio advertising

Radio advertising as an advertising medium is powerful. Radio advertising is economic. Radio advertising reaches the masses. Radio advertising is intrusive and compelling and reaches a captive audience.

Radio advertising can be a very effective way to get your company's message to a large, broad market: anyone who has access to a radio.

Effects of radio advertisement on consumer and radio advertisements cost cheaper than newspaper and TV advertisement . radio ads is better than other media advertising campaigns.peoplr use radio advertisement and remembered rates of brand name is increase.

Covert Advertising

Covert advertising is when a product or brand is embedded in entertainment and media. For example, in a film, the main character can use an item or other of a definite brand, as in the movie Minority Report, where Tom Cruise's character John Anderton owns a phone with the Nokia logo clearly written in the top corner, or his watch engraved with the Bulgari logo. Another example of advertising in film is in I, Robot, where main character played by Will Smith mentions his Converse shoes several times, calling them "classics," because the film is set far in the future. I, Robot and Spaceballs also showcase futuristic cars with the Audi and Mercedes-Benz logos clearly displayed on the front of the vehicles. Cadillac chose to advertise in the movie The Matrix Reloaded, which as a result contained many scenes in which Cadillac cars were used. Similarly, product placement for Omega Watches, Ford, VAIO, BMW and Aston Martin cars are featured in recent James Bond films, most notably Casino Royale. In "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer", the main transport vehicle shows a large Dodge logo on the front. Blade Runner includes some of the most obvious product placement; the whole film stops to show a Coca-Cola billboard.

Mobile Billboard Advertising

Mobile billboards are generally vehicle mounted billboards or digital screens. These can be on dedicated vehicles built solely for carrying advertisements along routes preselected by clients, they can also be specially-equipped cargo trucks or, in some cases, large banners strewn from planes. The billboards are often lighted; some being backlit, and others employing spotlights. Some billboard displays are static, while others change; for example, continuously or periodically rotating among a set of advertisements.
Mobile displays are used for various situations in metropolitan areas throughout the world, including:
• Target advertising
• One-day, and long-term campaigns
• Conventions
• Sporting events
• Store openings and similar promotional events
• Big advertisements from smaller companies
• Others

Celebrity Advertising

Although the audince is getting smarter than smarter and the modern day consumer getting immune to the exaggerated claims made in a majority of advertesiments, there exist a section of advertisers that still bank upon celebrities and their popularity of advertising their products. Using celebrities for advertising involves signing up celebrities for advertising campaigns, which consist on of all sorts of advertising including, television ads or even print advertisements.

Effects of brands on people

We interviewed about effects of brands on people with our group members Derya and Tuğba. Derya and Tuğba are ill conditioned person in our group. They said interesting things.

How much important is brand name important when buy a something?

I have Nike conditioning two years ago. All of my clothes were Nike. My friends called me "walking Nike store". It's a gradual change but I got rid of my conditioning. I focused on Nike although I also searched for brands but unfortunately brand name is still important for me. I know that brand name isn't important for clothes. Derya

My conditioning is related to shoes, watches and eyeglasses. I prefer to brand name because if it has a problem I can find authority. I haven't got conditioning on clothes such as t-shirt, pants. If İt isn't important whether it is brand or not for me. Tuğba

Second out of the class meeting

Derya, Tuğba, Ömer, Sibel and Tuğçe went to the Pizza Hut in Nautilus. Ömer interview about ‘effect of brands on people’. We will share the interview when it was prepared. And we search the people.

Battle of the beverages

“Coca Cola put up a hoarding for their office on 2nd floor which was smartly hijacked by Pepsi.”

“Pepsi’s love for Coke on April fool’s day.”

The battle of brands have generated some really innovative campaigns over the years. The love affair between Pepsi and Coke is so evident from above ads and this reminds me of some interesting hoarding war between Kingfisher Vs. Jet.

So we conduct a poll in class about coca-cola or pepsi. Poll results coca-cola better than pepsi:

Pepsi: %20

Coca-cola:%65

I can not tell the difference: %5

I do not drink soda: %10

What is peace education for our comment?

We can search "peace education for our comment" under three ideas;

Identity Consumption

People change their personal identitiy for adopting fashion. People try to be different but they become the same so people who entegrate in a group lose their identity.

People are encouraged to consumption with various causes which are adapting new group and creating new trend. For instance, people who change into a new condition depend on their new group conditioning. They start to adapt to the new group with new clothes, behaviour and new hair style. They try to be as the people who are in the new group. In short, this variation starts at first with appearance then character. On the other hand, people who get bored from the same things want to create new trend such as tiki girl who have to same brand clothes, eyeglasses, bag, shoes and hair. All of them are one type. Even their conversation belongs to tiki and they go to same cafes such as Starbucks. In short, you understand people which are tiki whenever you see.

Dissatisfaction

Every kind of person is affected by fashion so they become addicted to consumption. This situation is not only based on needs but also fashion and brand.

Unequality

Nowadays we have been living in a consuming community. Therefore, it's normal that people who have got distinct economic status affect each other and they tend to consumption. These situations cause psychological problems.

McDonald's or Burger King. Which one do you prefer?

Today, these two brands are very preferable because they produce fast and practical foods. Therefore, advertisements that these two brands do are very effective on people. Their prices are same and I think their food's tastes are the same so people consider the brand image or some other things. In past days, we interviewed with our group member Tuğçe. That day, she said interesting things.

Why do you prefer Burger King?
Because it is delicious.

How long have you been going to Burger King?
For a long time.

Do you remember how old you were when you first went to Burger King?
Nearly 5.

Why did you chose Burger King in the past?
My parents encouraged me and I was also encouraged by the toys Burger King gives which are advertised in some movies.

What do you think about whether fast food is conditioning or going to Burger King is conditioning?
I think going Burger King is a conditioning.

I know that you prefer Burger King. Why not do you prefer McDonald's?
Because Burger King is very delicious.

As you see, people consider brand image or their habits while they choose. In the examples above, toys which were given by these restaurants and habits are important but these are already important for many people. These restaurants have many selling strategies. Toys are one of the most important strategies. We will continue to search about these strategies.

What is Peace Education?

Peace Education means to learn about and to learn for peace.

Learning about peace means obtaining knowledge and understanding of what contributes to peace, what damages it, what leads to war, what does 'peace' mean on each level anyway, what is my role in it, and how are the different levels connected?

Learning for peace means learning the skills, attitudes and values that one needs in order to contribute to peace and help maintain it. For example, this means learning to deal with conflicts without the recourse to violence, learning to think creatively, learning to apply the methods of active non violence or learning to deal with cultural differences in a constructive way.
